Toyota Fortuner

Expected in Early 2009
Estimated price: 16-18 Lakh

Looks form an important part of something as big as a SUV and this Japanese does not disappoint. The front looks butch (very uncharacteristic of Japanese) with that strong bonnet line and large head lamps taking the pride place next to the grille. The bonnet scoop looks menacing. The front appears dynamic yet simple. There is certain purpose of the roof rails and those massive wheel arches when you talk about the design aspect. The same purposeful look is retained at the rear with the large tail lamps adding a bit of liveliness.
Toyota Fortuner Rear The engine options will include a 2.7L petrol and a 3.0L diesel engines. The VVT-i engine will have 160PS on offer while the 3.0L D-4D will have a thrust of 163PS. Being a Toyota, expect bullet proof reliability and brilliant off-road ability. It has long been coming, but sources say that this time round the rumours of the car getting launched in late 2008 are indeed true. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen. We for one, really hope it does! Toyota… listening?

New Maruti 800 / Suzuki Cervo

The company may bring in the Cervo. You might have read about the news of a small car in the B-segment (again?!!) from Suzuki that might be launched in India and will be based on the Splash. To us, the Cervo is one car that is more captivating than the Splash since it is already rolling off the production lines in Japan.
So, what exactly is the Cervo huh? Well, a compact car, not much bigger than the Alto that is currently powered by a 660cc petrol engine but to compete against the likes of the Santro, Spark and its sibling Zen Estilo, the Maruti Suzuki Cervo will come equipped with an engine capacity of a litre. Considering the trend flowing in the Indian market, 60-65 bhp is a realistic estimate of the power that will be sent to the front wheels. Arching roofline aids the wedgy stance while the high and squat hood compliments the large, slanted headlights. The rear is equally attractive as the front end of the Cervo is. The large lamps add appeal and character to the rear of this Suzuki

This car has been launched in India by the Japanese automobile giant in order to tap the growing high-end car segment. The approximate price of this sedan will be around Rs. 20 lakhs. India is all geared to have a set of hot wheels zooming on the roads. Apparently, the Teana would be imported fully from Kyushu plant of Nissan located in Japan. The car will be powered by a 2.3 liter petrol engine. The maximum power is around 125 KW at 6000 rpm, while the maximum torque is around 22.8 kgm at 4400rpm. Other features of this sleek sedan include LED headlamps, LED rear lights and stop lights, spacious and luxurious interior and an eight way powered driver's seat for comfort. The small car, which is priced at Rs100, 000 (2,500 dollars), has been named Nano. According to the Tata Motors, the Nano will hit the Indian roads later this year. Ever since the Tatas announced their intention of developing the 1 lakh car (touted as people’s car), the auto industry experts have been raising doubts over the price, features, safety and specifications of Tata Nano. Have a look at specifications and other aspects of the Tata Nano, the four door mini-hatchback
Engine: The small car sports a two cylinder 623 cc, 33 horsepower rear mounted multi-point fuel injection (MPFi) petrol engine. Tata claims that the car can touch the top speed of 105 kms.

Fuel Efficiency: Engineers at Tata Motors have designed an efficient engine that can run 20 Kms on every litre of petrol.

Pollution: Against the criticism and concerns of the environmentalists, Nano surpasses Indian regulatory requirements and Euro IV emission norms. In fact, Tata claims that the small car is less polluting than most of the bikes on Indian roads.

Safety: Tata says that they have tested the small car extensively for front, rear and side collisions and come out with a product that exceeds current regulatory requirements. The safety features of the Nano include a strong passenger compartment, intrusion resistant doors, seat belts, sturdy seats and anchorage.
